Zmorem ("I CAN")

RIC Novo mesto was involved in Project Zmorem, in which we implemented psychosocial assistance programmes for children, adolescent and young people or their families.

The project was funded by the Ministry of Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities and was implemented in RIC Novo mesto in 2016 and 2017.

Social research indicates various risk factors for the rise in violence in modern society. Among the important risk factors, the economic crisis that has divided society is most often mentioned, which has led to an increase in the number of marginalised social groups. In 2010, even in a report, the FRA agency wrote that young people who are victims of discrimination and feel socially marginalised and those who have been victims of violence are more likely to be violent themselves in relation to other people.

The activities in the programme aimed at children, adolescents and individual members of the families of marginalised groups (Roma, migrants, early school leavers, children and adolescents with behavioural problems, children and adolescents resulting from neglected or socially weaker families) in the local area have influenced their empowerment, the development of social competences and greater sensitization to identify domestic and environmental violence. Special attention has been paid to the problem of tolerance towards violence against women, which is most often derived from cultural patterns and the negative impacts of traditional habits and customs, and to various forms of street violence involving violence through intolerance, within individual groups, as well as extortion, violence against individuals and sexual violence.

The programme's activities were carried out in 4 sets of 8 workshops. Each strand was complete, adapted to the specificities of each target group, in substance and implementation. The implementation of the workshops was carried out in accordance with the objectives of the Memorandum of Lifelong Learning, which means that we have approached the participants as close as possible to home. The estimated number of participants in the workshops was 640 (of which 1/3 parents).
